New green initiatives in the UAE

The Zero Harm health, safety and environmental initiative aims to reduce fatalities, injuries and environmental impact across the workplace in the next few weeks.

Khamis Juma Buamim, chairman of Drydocks World and Maritime World, said: “We are proud of our credentials in environment management and occupational health and safety. The initiative aims to minimise air pollution which is being helped along by the use of Chariot Robotics Envirobots – a state of the art automated system for surface preparation at the yard.

The robotic operating facilities clean and remove heavy duty marine and industrial coatings by employing high pressure water to strip coatings and uses a vacuum system to collect the paint for safe disposal.

Drydocks is also implementing other green initiatives including replacing halogen lighting at the docks with LED lights, refrigerant gas recovery units for maintenance work, a new filtration system for plasma cutting and air monitoring units.

The group has an Environmental Management System that ensures that environmental impact is continually monitored and reduced.
