All-round freight growth at Marseilles Fos

Marseilles Fos recorded all-round freight growth in 2015, buoyed by record container volumes.

Total cargo at the French port hit 81.7m tonnes, up 4.1% on the previous year, while container throughput was up 3.5% to 1.22m teu.

The port is confident that volumes will continue to rise in 2016, forecasting 83.7m tonnes of cargo throughput this year.

The growth projections for 2016 are supported by an €83m investment budget for the year, an increase of 84% on the previous year’s €45m budget.

The port authority will use the funds to continue its work on its existing projects extending the Feuillane logistics park in Fos, improving roads and waterways facilities, relocating ferry passenger terminals and investing in ‘cold ironing’ quayside power connections for ferries.
