More competitive ports for Germany

Identifying future challenges for Germany’s ports and setting out measures to overcome them, the new strategic guidelines will support port policy-making for the next ten years, giving all involved “a reliable basis for political and commercial action”, according to the Port of Hamburg.

Comprising 155 separate measures, the concept encourages the expansion of port-related infrastructures; boosting the competitiveness of ports; protection of the environment and climate; provision of high-quality vocational training and employment; and guarantees of appropriate security and hazard prevention.

Implementation will be the responsibility of a steering group headed by the responsible Under-Secretary of State at the Federal Ministry for Transport and Digital Infrastructure.
