Eurogate and DP World win Cyprus concessions
The Cyprus Ports Authority (CPA) has selected two consortia to run services at the east Mediterranean island’s largest post, Limassol, according to reports by news agency, Yahoo.
The first, comprising Germany’s EUROGATE International, Cyprus’s Interorient Navigation Company and Luxembourg-based, East Med Holdings, will run the port’s container terminal, whilst the second, made up of Dubai’s DP World, its subsidiary P&O Maritime and Cyprus-based freight specialist GAP Vassilopoulos, will operate sea services and a multi-purpose terminal.
According to the report, more details will be available once the contracts are signed and parliamentary approval is given in the next six weeks. The state will retain ownership of the port.
Limassol port, on the island’s southern coast, currently handles 4,000 ships, both container ships and cruise liners.
The CPA was asked to comment but did not respond.
