Mobile pump out vessel for marinas
The only existing solutions for waste and bilge waters onboard are onshore pumping stations – a significant investment for marinas, which in turn creates traffic around the facilties and possible additional pollution through uncontrolled dumping and land-based mobile pumping systems which often have restricted access to marinas. In an effort to alleviate traditional pump-out systems a French-based company has developed the Ecotank, a purpose built vessel incorporating a pumping system which brings the pump out to the vessel, thereby minimizing pollution within the marina and freeing up valuable land for other uses.
The onboard sewage water treatment system treats grey and black waters and the recycled clean water is then discharged back in to the sea. Equipped with a 1000 litre tank (an additional 2 tanks can be added) the noiseless pump is capable of pumping up to 500 litres per minute with a 9m vertical suction and up to 6.5 tons of garbage can be collected. The Ecotank is also equipped with a net to remove floating waste during operations. The Ecotank is 6.5m in length with a beam of 2.48m, with an aluminium hull and with its shallow draft of 0.16m creates minimal wash during operations. The Ecotank has international approvals from Lloyds, the US Coastguard and DNV, is already operational in the French Riveiera marinas of Golfe Juan, Cannes, St Tropez and Monaco and the company are currently in negotiations with marinas and harbours in Mayotte in Mozambique and in Dubai, Abu Dhabi, Italy, Tunisia and Alegeria.
