NYK looks to reduce ship speeds

The initiative, revealed in a New Year message by NYK president Koji Miyahara, is expected to be adopted across the company’s entire fleet of more than 740 containerships, bulkers, car carriers, tankers, liquefied natural gas carriers and cruise ships. Mr Miyahara said the slowdown would produce a saving of more than 25% in fuel oil consumption and reduce CO2 emissions.
