Climate funding for expansion of electricity feeding
At the ro/ro-terminal the forestry and pulp group Stora Enso’s vessels have been linked up to electricity supply points since 2000. The Port of Göteborg has applied for a climate investment grant from the Swedish Environmental Protection Agency to supply electricity at all berths at the ro/ro terminal.
The application is for 750 000 EUR and the total investment is SEK 2, 4 million EUR. In Sweden discussions are taking place to remove tax on electricity, making it advantageous to supply vessels with electricity. In addition, an international electricity standard is in the pipeline and with effect from 2010 the EU will for environmental reasons require that all vessels operate using the more expensive port diesel. In that case ‘cold ironing’ could be a good alternative.
