Progress for Port of Long Beach expansion

According to the study, the proposed facility would allow trains up to 10,000ft long to be loaded and unloaded at on-dock rail facilities at marine terminals to streamline rail operations, remove bottlenecks and reduce the need for local truck trips.

The project is an important part of the Port of Long Beach’s green port goals, which include a long-term objective to move 50% of all inbound cargo leaving the port by rail.

Currently, the Pier B rail facility serves as a storage and staging area for trains and is primarily used by Pacific Harbor Line.

Comments on the study will be accepted until February 13, 2017.
