Getting SMARTer with waterways
The biennial Strategic Maritime Asset Research and Transformation Rivers Conference (SMART) will once again look at bringing together the best in inland waterway transport and technology to share best practice.
The 2013 conference is being held under the auspices of the World Association for Waterborne Transport Infrastructure (PIANC). PIANC are joint organisers along with the support of the Walloon, Flemish and Dutch Waterway Authorities.
It will take place from 23 to 27 September in Liége, Belgium and Maastricht in The Netherlands and will cover topics such as inland ports, information technology, multipurpose use of waterways and international collaboration.

PIANC is a professional organisation offering access to worldwide trends and challenges in port and waterway development and management.
