VICT teething problems overcome

VICT’s initial stevedoring operations were slower than anticipated, however the company said that while there were teething problems with systems and equipment, causing longer-than-desired service times, the operation had provided an excellent test and a good foundation on which to improve.

A spokesperson for VICT commented that import delivery had been strong and added: “Having now had first-hand experience with our equipment under real working conditions, it has been great to see how VICT’s main automation systems have remained very stable.”

The teething problems were to be expected in the early stages of automation trialling, and the data collected would provide insights for adjustments and improvements to operations in future.

Parent company ICTSI has also expressed satisfaction with the test call, saying that while it started slowly, the quayside operations stabilised and got better, and the landside operation was a success. Full commercial operations at VICT begin in April.
