Algeciras bid deadline extended again

Despite much-improved labour relations at ports throughout Spain, Algeciras Bay Port Authority has decided to put back for a fifth time the bidding deadline for a tender for a new container terminal – its third – which it proposes to build on the Phase B extension of the Isla Verde expansion area of the port.

According to the port authority “the extension is due to the fact that the causes that justified the previous extensions, the process of reform of the stevedoring sector and the completion of the sale of TTI Algeciras, are still in play”.

The original tender was issued in August 2016, with bids invited by November. This was later extended to March 31, 2017 and later to May 31, 2017, June 30, 2017 and October 31, 2017. Bids are now due by January 31, 2018.

On offer is a 50-year concession for a 30.5 hectare site adjacent to the intermodal freight railway terminal.
