MSC Valencia box terminal upgrade
The MSC terminal on Muelle Transversal de Costa in the Spanish Mediterranean Port of Valencia is to be upgraded to enable it to receive the largest vessels afloat. Work is to take place over a seven-month period at a cost of €5.748m.
The draft in both the access channel and in the harbour area is to be dredged to a depth of 18 metres to allow 19,000 teu vessels to be accommodated. The quayside itself is also to be reinforced, using a screen of 429 jet-grouted columns and 59 piles. In addition, the breakwater in that area will be removed and a new form of protection put in place on the exposed slopes of the quay.
A tender for the work has been issued and a bidding deadline set for December 11, 2017, although these will not be opened until midday of February 22, 2018.
