CASTELLON TARGETS CERAMICS TRAFFIC

Leif Wallin, president of trailer handling for the Finland-headquartered company, confirmed that Kalmar is “involved in hybrids in a couple of projects”, working with the US Environmental Protection Agency in the ports of Long Beach and New Jersey.

The Spanish Mediterranean port of Castellon de la Plana, located 50 kilometres north of Valencia, has inaugurated a new multipurpose terminal, Terminal Polivalente de Castellon, with which it hopes to compete with both Barcelona and Valencia. Shareholders of the new venture are FCC, Lubasa, Grupo Boluda, Castellon Shipping and Bilbao-based stevedoring group SLP.

The ¢45m invested in the terminal has been justified given that the local ceramics industry would be able to save significant amounts of money by switching export consignments to the port, given its closer proximity and cheaper rates than main rival Valencia.
