This includes preparations for port shutdown if a hurricane is on the way, says Sean Barker, Mouchel’s ports and marine divisional manager (UK).
“The consequences of a hurricane can be severe both in terms of wind and torrential rain – there is a need to have a plan for preparing for, surviving and responding to the hurricane,” he says.
The client has a “hurricane contingency plan” which sets out the procedures and protocols for spotting and responding to a hurricane risk.
“Facility management includes preparations for security, IT, marine vessels, buildings, container yard and crane tie-down,” says Mr Barker. “The plan involves evacuating non-critical personnel six hours before the hurricane hits.”
