It has also supplied six Drive-In L units for new RTGs manufactured by Konecranes as part of the terminal’s expansion. Conductix-Wampfler installed the steel structure and overall 10,400m of conductor rail systems.
Andreas Burkart, who was in charge of the project at Conductix-Wampfler, said: “We fitted a total of 25 blocks with the E-RTG Drive-In L solution, each of which was between 100m and 130m long.”
“The Single-Side and Back-to-Back systems translated into more than ten kilometres of conductor rails, 50 Drive-In zones, and 25 pillar boxes fitted over a total system length of 2,900 meters.”
In order to convert to the voltage required by the ZPMC RTG’s, each RTG had to be fitted with two transformers.
As well as installing the Drive-In L units, the RTGs also had to be equipped with a switch cabinet, control system, auto-steering system and reinforcement for the sill beam for holding the Drive-In L units and transformers.
“Conductix-Wampfler’s system has proven to be the best alternative to using diesel-operated systems, especially given the challenging climatic conditions of the Colombian coast”, explained Eduardo Montero from Grup TCB, which runs the Colombian terminal.
