The Earth Day Award for Excellence in Environmental Stewardship recognises a series of strategic environmental initiatives first adopted by the port in 2012 which include stringent air and water quality, protection of marine resources, maintaining healthy soil and sediment and climate change adaptation.
Mary Anne Roone, Oxnard Harbor district commissioner and Kristin Decas, port director & CEO, were presented with the award by The Ventura County Board of Supervisors.
Commissioner Rooney said: “I was honoured to nominate the Port of Hueneme Oxnard Harbor District as the Third District recipient of the 2017 Earth Day Award for their exemplary environmental efforts in Ventura County. I am so proud of the fact that our port, which is among the most important economic drivers in our county, has made good stewardship of the environment a high priority in how they do business every day for the betterment of our community and our region.”
For the last two and a half years the port has been an accredited member of Green Marine, the voluntary eco-accountability programme.
Ms Decas added: “Our pursuit of strong and active environmental policies and programmes will continue to be integral to the day-to-day operations of the Port of Hueneme.”
