Hydrogen vehicles for sustainable ports

Port and logistics operators will be able to further their sustainable fuel goals with newly developed hydrogen-propelled vehicles.

Gaussin hydrogen vehicles

Gaussin’s APM-H2 is dedicated to moving containers on port terminals and capable of pulling over 75t. The company has also developed the ATM-H2, intended for logistics hubs and with a towing capacity of 38t.

Christophe Gaussin, chairman of Gaussin, said the launch “of our first hydrogen-powered vehicles is an important step in Gaussin’s strategy to offer a full range of zero CO2 emission vehicles”.

These vehicles are equipped with hydrogen powerpacks, the earliest versions of which were developed in partnership with the CEA-Liten (Atomic Energy Agency – Innovation Laboratory for New Energy Technologies and Nanomaterials).

The vehicles’ hydrogen tanks can be filled up in a matter of minutes for several hours of operation. This ratio of charging time to autonomy gives the hydrogen solution a clear advantage over other technologies. In addition, as the filling process is similar to that of filling up at a petrol station, the vehicles are easy to use.

Hydrogen partnership

Gaussin has entered into a partnership with Faurecia to equip the ATM-H2 and the APM-H2 with Faurecia’s hydrogen storage systems.

Containing 5kg of hydrogen at 350 bars and with up to 12 hours of autonomy, the storage systems will be developed and produced by Faurecia.

Delivery of these systems will begin in 2020.
