Conti brings radial tyres into product range

The radials will be focused on load and carry applications for port equipment that operate over longer distances and at higher constant speeds. This type of use can lead to heat build-up, prompting higher maintenance costs and increased vehicle downtime in some instances.

Continental’s new radials use state-of-the-art technology to reduce that heat build-up, according to Julian Alexander, Continental’s product line manager.

The radials, available with integrated tyre sensors, will be available from next summer.

The tyre manufacturer has also created a new ‘Port Plus’ compound for its V.ply tyres to increase the life of its traditional tyre types.

“In pick & stack applications, vehicles are used to load and unload containers, there is a lot of short distance driving with a high number of turning on the spot – the focus of the tyre development therefore needs to be the reduction of abrasion and the subsequent tyre wear it causes,” said Mr Alexander.

The Port Plus compound reduces heat generation and abrasion, which are the two primary causes of tyre wear, said Continental.

In a third product launch, Continental has developed two digital tyre pressure monitoring systems: ContiPressureCheck for individual vehicles and ContiConnect for fleets.

Both feature tyre sensors that constantly measure temperature and pressure from inside the tyre. The sensors provide data which is displayed on a handheld tool, on a screen in the driver’s cabin or on a web portal overseeing the fleet. Alerts and notifications inform fleet operators of a tyre problem.
