DPW announces environment award winners
Global terminal operator DP World has announced the winners of its 2009 Safety and Environment Awards for Excellence. “This year we received a total of 69 submissions; the variety of risks being tackled clearly demonstrating that there is a lot of effort being made to improve safety and environmental performance right throughout the business on a global scale,” commented Lawrie Holman, Global Director of Safety & Environment.
The entrants were judged by a panel of industry leaders including: Mike Compton, International Cargo Handling & Co-ordination Association (ICHCA); Frank Leys, International Transport Workers Federation; Anil Wats, COO, DP World; Sir John Parker, vice chairman of the DPW board.
The winners in each category were:
Environmental Innovation Award – for initiatives showing evidence of demonstrable environmental benefit:
First: Prakash Tendulkar, Vivek Rane, Abhay Srivastav, Vipul Vora, Ramesh Sawalkar, Rajmohan Shetty, Manish Shrivastava Nhava Sheva, Mumbai – India Carbon Footprint Reduction
Second: Paul Won, Nickael Chan, Cheng Tung Kin, Asia Container Terminal Hong Kong – RTG Energy Saving
Third: Marcus Pearson. Fabio Lana and Christopher Webb, London Gateway – Marine Environment Enhancement program
Outstanding Leadership Award – For demonstrating outstanding leadership in Safety Management:
First: Robby Van Bunder – Antwerp, Belgium
Second: Hyun Sik Kim – Pusan, Korea
Third: Fe Faytaren – ATI Batangas
Safety Excellence Team Award – For initiatives contributing to improved safety in the business unit:
First: Paul De Deckere, Willy Matthe’, Patrick Dhont Antwerp NV, Europe Region – For: Mobile Anchor Point on Monorail
Second: KK Krishnadas, Sagar Mhatre, Sai Subramanian, Komandur Sridhar, Nagin Chaudhary, Jignesh Vania, Rajesh Samdani, Sachin Garg, Alok Mishra, Anil Deshpande, Akhilesh Singh, Mundra SCO Region – For: Safety Walk the Talk
Third: Peter Hawman and OHS Committee members – Leissa Pitt, Kerri Lamicela, Paul Pascu, Jason Atkinson, Mick O’Brien, James Stevens, plus others, Melbourne Australia Site – For: Rescue cage DVD
The Safest Terminal Award – This was a new section in the awards programme and was judged on the following criteria – zero fatalities, FRS compliance, low LTIFR rate. The entries were of a very high calibre.
The judges deliberated for considerable time and the outcome was a joint award to:
Tilbury Container Terminal – EUR Region and
Karachi Container Terminal Pakistan QICT- SCO Region.
