Freight strategy delay concerns
The Australian Federal Government’s much-heralded national freight strategy may be later arriving than expected, meaning the election could be fought without the policy in place.
Ports and transport industry observers voiced doubts about the progress on the policy after federal infrastructure minister Anthony Albanese failed to give a timeframe for giving an answer to key issues affecting coastal shipping, landside and portside infrastructure.
The Federal Government is investing about A$36bn (US$33bn) over six years in road, rail and port infrastructure.
