Green light for new South American port

The Brazilian Government has approved Imetame group’s plan to build, install and operate a ‘Private Use Terminal (TUP)’ in Espírito Santo, in the municipality of Aracruz.

“Appraised at more than R$ 206 million, it has a total area of 1,032,639.20 m²in public waters, which will be destined for a retro area, wharf and mooring berths, piers, breakwater and evolution basin,” said the Government.

Imetame Logística Porto’s development will handle containers, general cargo, vehicles, project cargo, solid, liquid and gaseous bulk, and offer offshore support. The greenfield port will have initial infrastructure to handle 300,000 TEUs per year, with capacity to expand handling to more than 1m TEUs.

With a depth of 17m, the port will be able to handle the next generation of container ships and allow container ships to enter and leave it fully loaded.

This decision by the Secretariat for Coordination and Governance of Union Heritage (SPU), of the Ministry of Economy, supports the country’s economic and sustainable development ambitions.

Imetame Logística will have four years to complete the implementation of the port following the signing of a contract with SPU. For the use of the space, it will pay the Union approximately R$ 4.1m annually.
