More ports to join Green Award

A total of 15 more ports are set to join the Green Award in 2013. During the annual congress of the Dutch Inland Port Association, the ports of Amsterdam, Limburg and Zeeland Seaports, signed a letter of intent along with along with the cities of Bergen and Utrecht, which represented the 15 ports.

The new ports will join a group of incentive providers that have been supporting the certification of inland barges since the launch of the programme in 2011.

The ‘Green Award’ for inland shipping was established to promote quality shipping amongst sea-going vessels. To date, there are 350 certified inland barges and eight ports which are providing discount on port dues to inland navigation vessels certified by the Green Award Foundation.

For the eleventh consequent year, oil tanker application and annual fees will remain the same in 2013. The tariffs for LNG carriers, inland navigation vessels, bulk carriers and chemical tankers will also remain unchanged.

The Green Award will also welcome three new members to its committee in 2013. Andrew Clifton will join the team along with Wim van Gils as inspector and Hary Harinder as a research officer to assist with the development of new and revised Green Award requirements.
