New tenders in Cape Verde, Chile and Ecuador

The government of Cape Verde is putting the finishing touches to the legal and regulation framework to enable state-owned ports to be privatised in 2014. This follows parliamentary approval dating to November 2010.

Under privatisation, the National Company for Ports Administration (Enapor) will retain ownership of all ports in the archipelago and individual terminals will be operated by concessionaires.

In Chile, the Port of Puerto Montt (Empormontt) received no offers by the December 10 deadline for companies interested in bidding for berths 1 and 2 of the current terminal and also for a third, in Panitao, some 18 km away.

Empormontt chief executive, Alex Winkler, confirmed that 13 sets of documents had been sold to prospective bidders, covering the $60m project.

Meanwhile, in Manta, Ecuador, the port authority is seeking a private sector operator to invest up to $951m over a 37-year concession period, while implementing a three-phase expansion of existing facilities.
