A century on the Thames
An exhibition embracing everything from Polar expeditions to 1930s Christmas parties is being opened to tell the stories behind the well-known face of the Port of London Authority.
The film footage and other archived material is part of celebration of the authority’s century of service to the Thames, and shows the way that the PLA has battled through two world wars and a revolution in shipping.
However it is also the “story of a port authority, its people, the docks, and a river that has evolved alongside the city it serves”, says PLA chief executive, Richard Everitt.
It will run from 30 March to 19 April 2009 in the Museum of London Docklands in the UK capital.
