Cabling that copes with permafrost
A new cable has just been released that will help ports that are prone to extremely low temperatures.
Iceflex is intended for use in a wide variety of applications. It remains flexible at temperatures as low as – 50°C, while still ensuring advanced fire performance.
The producer, Nexans, explains that the problem with cables with conventional insulation is that they become stiff and brittle in intense cold. However the new cabling features special materials that enables the cable to operate reliably even in exposed conditions, frozen ground or permafrost.
The cable also easily adapts to abrupt temperature variations such as those taking place during spring and autumn.
