Cranes sail into port upright
Two post-Panamax cranes were delivered by Liebherr to the United Arab Emirates in a ready to go state recently – despite high seas which meant the delivery barge had to take shelter until the bad weather passed.
Khorfakkan Port (KCT) saw the pair come in fully erect mode: the cranes were assembled at Sharjah Port and transferred by seagoing barge to port.
The journey – taking approximately four days – saw “some challenging weather conditions”, as Liebherr’s Gerry Bunyan says, including “90 km/hr winds and high seas”.
However, the cranes arrived safely, which meant that they were in action almost immediately after delivery, starting operations on the 9,700 teu CMA CGM Orfeo.
