Flexsim first with container terminal tool

Claiming to be the first commercially available “off-the-shelf” simulation tool specifically designed for simulating container terminal operations, Flexsim CT promises to improve container terminal operation, allowing terminal operators and consultants to analyse yard stacking and segregation strategies, yard layout and dispatching, gate logistics and capacity, quay crane allocation, yard equipment allocation, hossler gang allocation, ship scheduling, berth assignment, traffic constraints and other areas of container terminal logistics.

Utilising a “drag-drop” model-building methodology and an integrated 3D environment, the product aims to make model-building easy, fast and intuitive.

Flexsim CT also provides real-time simulation statistics collection of many key performance measures, including berth productivity, ship queuing and wait times, quay crane utilisation, truck queuing and wait times, yard content, container dwell times, yard equipment utilisation and gate throughput and turn times.

Additionally, the product allows ‘dummy runs’ of new processes, so that these can be simulated, tested, and justified prior to implementing them in the actual system. The results of each simulation can be analysed graphically through 3D animation, and through statistical reports and graphs.
