Kalmar proves popular in the East

Vietnam International Container Terminals has ordered 17 rubber-tyred gantry cranes from Kalmar to help handle a sharp rise in container traffic at its Ho Chi Minh City facility. The 6+1 wide and 1-over-6 high units are expected to give improved productivity, reliability and environmental benefits.

Then, Kalmar Industries won an order to supply 96 terminal tractors to Hanjin Shipping – South Korea’s largest shipping company – for operation at its new container terminal as part of the Pusan New Port Project, earmarked as the country’s principal deepwater seaport, with operations starting in 2009.

Meanwhile, in Thailand green, fuel-saving solutions have assisted Thailand’s LCMT Company in their choice of extra cranes for the Port of Laem Chabang.

Kalmar will supply the new rubber-tyed gantry cranes and outfit them with a Variable Speed Generator (VSG) to reduce both energy consumption and pollution.

Elsewhere, Norsteve Oslo AS, operating at the new Sjursøya Container Terminal in the Port of Oslo, has awarded Kalmar a service contract which includes the provision of preventative maintenance, trouble shooting, and repairs due to normal wear and tear on five Kalmar ESC 350 W straddle carriers that have been in operation in the port since January.
