Kalmar sharpens its strategy
Kalmar is to sell the entire share capital in the cab manufacturer Velsa Inc to Finland’ s Rautaruukki Corporation, part of its continuing strategy to concentrate on the marketing, development, assembly and servicing of container and heavy materials handling equipment.
The company says port marine departments are experiencing an ever-growing requirement to provide statistical data to either internal or external organisations. PMIS Standard Edition has been designed to meet this requirement. It follows a recent proof-ofconcept software trial conducted at several UK ports which showed that the PMIS could be dispatched as a boxed CD, installed by the port’s staff and commissioned with minimal support from Norcontrol IT.
Kalmar CEO, Christer Granskog comments: “The key to providing the best service to our customers involves staying close to them, developing and assembling good products and offering efficient services based on our knowledge of their needs. . . We look for partners to work together with us in the supply chain. This set-up gives us greater volume flexibility to cope with both the upswings and downturns in our very cyclical business environment and enables us to better meet our customers’ demands.”
Velsa will continue to be sole supplier to Kalmar’s factories in Europe following the transaction and Kalmar will continue to involve Velsa in its research and development activities, key to development of state-of-the-art products such as the ergonomic Spirit Delta cab.
