KCI Konecranes supplies 30 RMGs to APMT
Maersk has contracted KCI Konecranes for the delivery of 30 RMGs to APM Terminals new state-of-the-art container terminal in Portsmouth, Virginia. The contract calls for deliveries to begin in October 2006, and includes the option for an additional 30 cranes. APMTs new Virginia container terminal project is the largest single private investment in container terminals in the US.
The new terminal is expected to set a new benchmark in the container handling industry, establishing new performance standards and methods of operation. The Konecranes RMGs will be used for high density container stacking and truck loading in the container yard.
The cranes have a lifting capacity of 40 tons, a lifting height of 1 over 5 containers and a span of 25.4 m. The cranes are designed for high performance operation utilizing the latest control technology. They are equipped with the patented Konecranes Active Load Control technology, which has been applied and developed in Konecranes’ successful range of Rubber Tired Gantry (RTG) cranes.
The cranes have been specified to support the innovative stacking yard concept APMT has developed and will introduce at its new facility in Portsmouth. The cranes are fully electromechanical with no hydraulics involved. This complies with the current environmental regulations in the US, while simultaneously reducing the equipment maintenance costs and the total cost of ownership.
