Leave it to the experts
Hydrographic surveying is definitely best left to the experts, says William Heaps, chairman of the International Federation of Hydrographic Societies (IFHS).
General awareness of the importance of surveying is good in ports around the world but there are some developing problems: “We are very well aware of cruise ships going into very small ports around the world, some of which don’t have hydrographic capability, or into Alaska where there are no ports and it is not very well surveyed,” says Mr Heaps.
