Navis Delivers PrimeRoute for Terminal Tractors
Navis says its new PrimeRoute increases utilization of terminal tractors by estimating the optimal yard work assignment for each available tractor and automatically dispatching it to the appropriate RTG, railhead or quay crane for loading or unloading.
Fewer tractors are required to do the same amount of work, lowering capital investment as well as variable costs for labour, fuel and maintenance.
The new product will be implemented first at Cagliari International Container Terminal (CICT), one of the world’s busiest container ports with over 500,000 TEUs per year.
In most RTG operations, each tractor is dedicated to a single quay crane. Tractors are then dispatched on a first-come, first-served basis, travelling laden in one direction, and returning empty in the other. This inefficient method of operation creates excessive demand for tractors in order to match yard capacity to the high productivity level required at the quay. PrimeRoute for Terminal Tractors reduces unproductive travel and wait time by pooling tractors across a wider array of potential work assignments and then optimally matching available tractors to available work in real-time.
