Zárate secures GlobalSim simulators

The simulators, which are currently under development, will be installed at the port in the second quarter of this year, according to a release.

US-based GlobalSim will provide the facility with its Essential Plus system and a portable virtual reality (VR) system.

The former is an enhanced platform with several configuration options that will include a rubber-tyred gantry crane, a mobile harbour crane and ship pedestal cranes.

The VR system will deliver operator training on a hydraulic telescopic crane.

Commenting on the move, Oscar Delgado, GlobalSim’s international sales director, said: “Terminal Zárate will have the ability to conduct simulated, real-life situations seen in their area and cut the time and costs of their training.”

Gustavo Oliver, the port’s general manager, explained that when the facility started revamping its logistics, “the fundamental essence” was developing operators to become more efficient and training its staff, and the port knew that putting a GlobalSim simulator into its programme would be the element required to achieve its training objectives.

“GlobalSim’s simulators are as real as the actual equipment,” he said. “We know it is going to make the transition to actual equipment easier for our operators.”
