Cape Verde abandons port concession plan

According to a press release, it said that the concession route no longer responds either to the demands of its new vision or to the strategic needs of the sector.

As part of an earlier international tender, only the Bolloré Group presented a bid for one of the two groups of ports on offer. Its bid covered the ports of Praia and Mindelo, but not those of Palmeira and Sal-Rei, on the islands of Sal and Boa Vista.

The government continues to stress that it wants to increase the efficiency and competitiveness of the country’s port system, which will continue to be done through co-operation with the private sector. However, the previous system of sub-concessions has now been cancelled.
