Cardiff upbeat on future prospects

As John Fitzgerald, port director, South Wales Ports, marked the 100-year anniversary with a tree-planting ceremony, he took the opportunity to outline the port’s future aims.

With planning permission now awarded for a rapeseed storage and crushing plant, Cardiff port newcomer Flex Fuels will soon take up around 6 hectares in the port to refine bio-diesel.

Meanwhile, plans are progressing for a 40 acre area known locally as “The Prairie”. Callum Couper, ABP deputy port manager, South Wales, confirmed that the port hopes to develop it for unitised cargo over the next couple of years.
