Delays to Tanger-Med II

While the government is to invest $1.2bn in Tanger-Med II, neither APM Terminals not PSA are now wholly confident that this additional capacity will be needed. In 2008, they signed an agreement to assume concessions for Terminal 3 and Terminal 4 respectively. APM Terminals is reported to have expressed a desire for construction of its terminal to go ahead only if demand so warrants it; it was due to open for business in 2012.

In addition, Terminal 4, whose concession is held jointly by PSA and Marsa Maroc, will now open 15 months later than planned.

Tanger Med II will add an additional 5m teu capacity to the port, which will be able to handle 8.2m teu across the entire complex.
