Fuerteventura needs revamp

It is lacking a Frontier Inspection Post, which effectively means that no produce from outside the European Union can be landed there. As a result, much of the importation has to go via ports in neighbouring islands,effectively raising prices of all commodities.

The head of the port authority, Ignacio Yáñez, is calling for the construction of a new retaining dyke in the Gaviota zone, which would allow inbound cargo to avoid the centre of the capital city.

However, the Canary Islands government favours a much more expensive deep water installation at La Hondura.
