Grangemouth purchases straddle carriers

Scotland’s largest container terminal, located within the Port of Grangemouth, has continued a multi-million-pound investment in its facilities with the purchase of three new ESC340 straddle carriers.

Port of Grangemouth has purchased new straddle carriers as part of its ongoing multi-million-pound investment.

The purchase of the new straddle carriers will increase the fleet at the container terminal to 16, and represents the first stage of a phased fleet modernisation initiative which will, in time, replace the entire fleet.

Derek Knox, port manager, said: “Our order of the new straddle carriers further secures our position as Scotland’s largest container terminal. In Grangemouth, we handle some of the country’s most valuable exports, such as fine foods and drinks, so flexibility and durability of our equipment is essential.”

The port has already replaced some of the port’s existing machines with a new fleet of 15 Hyster forklift trucks as part of its investment. It has also completed resurfacing work at the terminal with the creation of heavy duty concrete, including additional storage lanes for laden containers as well as improved equipment access to landside and shipside operations.

The new Kalmar straddle carriers will be delivered at the end of 2016.
