Hapag-Lloyd terminal stake

The liner shipping company will acquire a 30% stake in Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven (CTW) and 50% of the shares of Rail Terminal Wilhelmshaven (RTW) at JadeWeserPort Wilhelmshaven. Terminal operator Eurogate continues to hold the remaining shares.

With its modern infrastructure and the superstructure offered by the terminal operator, JadeWeserPort offers ideal conditions for handling even large container ships. This port infrastructure now has to be further developed in a tried and tested collaboration with EUROGATE.”

On its website, Eurogate states: “Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven is Germany’s only deep-water container terminal. The world’s biggest ocean carriers have unrestricted access to the port at all times independently of tidal conditions. For with a navigation channel 18 m deep and the world’s biggest container gantries, the third port facility on the North Sea to be operated by the EUROGATE Group offers ideal prerequisites for loading and unloading ULCVs of any size. As a common-user terminal, all shipping lines worldwide will be able to use the terminal.”

What’s on offer?

Container Terminal Wilhelmshaven is a transhipment hub for feeder services to Scandinavia, the Baltic and Russia. Its location and links to the hinterland also make it a hub for the Rhine/Ruhr region. The terminal has a direct link to the A29 motorway. An intermodal rail terminal directly adjacent to the terminal site additionally provides connections to the European rail network. A logistics zone directly adjoins the terminal.

The parties have agreed to not disclose the purchase price. Subject to approval by the antitrust authorities, contract closing is expected within a few months.

Hapag-Lloyd has a fleet of 250 modern container ships and a total transport capacity of 1.8 million TEU. The company has a container capacity of approximately 2.8m TEU – including one of the largest and most modern fleets of reefer containers. A total of 121 liner services worldwide enable  connections between more than 600 ports on all the continents.
