Le Havre aims high for 2020

HAROPA – Port of Le Havre aims at allocating 50% of land for urban development over to logistics, by the year 2020, as part of its strategic plan, but this development will not be at the expense of the environment.

A spokesperson from HAROPA – Port of Le Havre told Port Strategy: “HAROPA – Port of Le Havre has been involved for many years now in the implementation of sustainable management. This means management of the sites to be re-developed and enforcement of environmental management to reduce the environmental impact of port activities.”

HAROPA has already launched calls for expression of interest for the development of the last two berths at Port 2000 and at other quays at the port including Asia and Osaka.

Port 2000 currently has three terminals – Terminal de France, Terminal Porte Océane and Terminal TNMSC. But Le Havre’s new €140m multimodal terminal will begin operations in May and a programme of improvement of rail connections for freight to the hinterland is already well underway.

On 100 hectares in the heart of the port area, the multimodal platform will transship containers onto rail wagons or river barges. In addition to making goods transport more fluid within the port area, the platform will provide an indispensable link in a bulk transport supply chain along the Seine corridor.

The spokesperson continued: “The port takes an active part in the creation of the new industrial off-shore wind energy trade and launched a call for expression of interest for the creation of a new storage facility for liquid bulk traffic.”

It will also be filing five replies to the call for the European Trans-European Transport Networks (TEN-T) project this month to apply for more than €40m in additional European aid for upgrade work on the Tancarville locks and a study for the river-access to Port 2000.
