Limassol port pilots on indefinite strike

The strike is said to be in reaction to a bid selected for marine services as part of the privatisation process.

It was reported by the Cyprus Mail that tender selected calls for a €500,000 starting amount, a minimum annual concession fee of €150,000 and a variable concession fee at a rate of 10.1% valid if it is greater than the €150,000 fee.

It is estimated that the port pilots service currently brings in over €8m to the ports authority.

Therefore, it was argued in an announcement by Limassol port pilots that the employees find the offer of marine services ‘humiliating’.

The statement added that for the container terminal start at €7.5m with a minimum concession fee of €7m and a 62.71% variable fee for the multiple usage terminal station, €2m initial amount, €2m concession fee and a 52.1% variable fee.
