Liverpool crane crashing marks a sign of the times

The 150ft tall gooseneck cranes at Cavendish Quay, Birkenhead Docks, were brought down by explosives experts at the end of last month to “allow better use of the quayside the cranes occupied”, according to Port of Liverpool operator, Mersey Docks and Harbour Company.

Each weighing 320 tonnes, the cranes were erected in 1964 and had spent most of their working lives discharging dry bulk cargoes from ships.
