London dredging programme kicks off
The Port of London Authority (PLA) ispoised to begin its biggest dredging project for 40 years at a cost of £ 1.5m.
Deepening the Princes Channel in the Thames Estuary, the PLA will clear nearly one and a half million tonnes of sand from the shipping lane.Work will begin before Christmas and is expected to take contractors Dredging International (UK) Ltd six to eight weeks, with the channel ready for navigation early in the New Year.
