New collective bargaining agreement in Bilbao

Port workers at the Spanish port of Bilbao have signed a new collective bargaining agreement covering 2009-2010, bringing to an end the threat of layoffs and temporary cuts to working hours.

The new agreement has come about thanks to the partial recovery of traffic, especially in the general cargo sector. Essentially, terms and conditions are the same as in the previous agreement, although it includes pay rises of 1.4% for 2009 and 1.8% for 2010.
