New Spanish Ports Law enacted

In August, Spain passed new legislation amending its Ports Law governing common user ports, which was first introduced in 2003.

The reform is the result of a consensus reached between the various port parties, including stevedores.

Many aspects of operations at ports have been overhauled, including those relating to the provision of labour, which have been by far the most contentious.

Around 85% of all Spanish imports pass through its ports, along with 50% of all exports.
