Port of Valencia returns to growth

Data between January and July of this year shows that container traffic has returned to growth and that during this time, the three ports managed by the PAV (Valencia, Sagunto and Gandia) handled 2,748,293 teu.

Foreign trade in full containers increased by 5% at the Port of Valencia in this period, while transit traffic experienced an increase of 4%. Empty containers moved back by 20%.

Import-export up 5%

During the first seven months of the year, the port handled 42,585,140t, an increase of 2% (until June, traffic went down 0.14%).

The import-export of general cargo has grown by 5% to a total of 13,523,820t. Specifically, exports increased by 6%.

Containerised general cargo grew by 4% to a total of 32,438,691t. This increase is mainly due to the good performance of goods such as construction materials and chemical products, said the port.

Liquid bulk decline

Conventional general cargo obtained positive figures with a growth of 2% and total traffic of 6,767,816t until the month of July.

Liquid bulk ended the January-July period with a decline of 10%. This decrease is mainly due to the results of goods such as natural gas, which fell by 18%, chemical products, which decreased by 2%, and diesel, which decreased by 30%.

Solid bulk decreased by 21%. Cereals and flour fell by 9%, natural and artificial fertilisers increased 29% and cement and clinker decreased by 52%.

The five countries which shipped the largest volume of goods handled through the port in the seven-month period included Spain, China, the US, Italy and Algeria.
