Portland freezes dues
Portland Port in the UK is to freeze its berthing and harbour dues as well as its pilotage charges until December 31, 2010 for all commercial vessels.
Ian McQuade, commercial manager of Portland Harbour Authority, said: “We know many of our customers are scrutinising every cost in their supply process – despite what some industries are saying about the green shoots of recovery.”
He continued: “It’s clear the next 12 months will squeeze shipping and the supply chain, putting yet more pressure on margins. We’re freezing prices as we’re always keen to support our customers especially in these testing times.”
