Radioactivity scanning at Valencia

Behind the US involvement is the fact that Spain has a large throughput of goods destined for America, with Valencia moving around 3.5m tonnes in 2009. It follows the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between both governments toward implementation of the Megaports system at a number of Spain’s ports back in 2004.

The port is keen to point out that this project is not simply a foreign security imposition, as it has been developed along with the Automated Clearance1 system. “By developing the systems jointly in this way, trade will be speeded up and will bring with it economic benefits for business,” said the port authority.
