Redundancies at Southampton docks
There are to be 60 redundancies at Southampton docks, with even more of the contracted workforce going in response to the severe decline in UK containerised volumes, says the terminal operator, DP World.
The company’s Southampton managing director, Campbell Mason, says that though it is “extremely regrettable”, this action is part of some “tough but necessary steps” needed to be taken by the terminal in the light of the current climate.
DP World says that the job losses will be spread across the various areas, and points out that this is the first time in 15 years that the terminal has implemented any widespread staff reductions.
