Riga port on the move

The estimated cost of the move is €183.5m ($226.3m), of which the port authority will supply €75m ($92.5m) and the European Union the rest.

Bidding was by invitation, with July 14 set as the deadline.

The new site will be closer to the mouth of the Daugava River, some 20 kilometres distant from existing terminals.

The new port will occupy an area of 64 hectares and have a capacity of 22m tonnes, of which 12m tonnes will be in the form of coal traffic.
